Claimed to be a developmental channel for new Mozilla Firefox releases, Aurora is an application which is designed to showcase the more experimental builds of Firefox. Users are allowed to experience the newest Firefox innovations in an unstable environment and provide feedback on features and performance, there by aiding in determine what makes the final release.

Nightly builds are private and shared only with developers, rather that slowing down their way to the Beta channel before eventually migrating to final release. With a purpose of speeding up testing and development,Firefox Aurora which is a new alpha channel has been made available so as to get an early glimpse into the latest changes under development.

Firefox Aurora can be distinguished from later beta and stable versions of Firefox by the use of Aurora instead of Firefox at key points in the user interface By sporting its own dedicated logo (unlike Chrome), it is technically possible to run Aurora alongside the beta or stable version of Firefox, although both programs will share add-on’s and preferences, thereby causing further problems.

Restoration of tabs on-demand in case of users who have multiple open tabs, an added preference is included which allows tabs to load on demand, resulting in faster start-up times when windows are restored.
