PicPosterous- iPhone Micro blogging !
Posterous, the very happening and popular micro-blogging site has again created new waves by launching their iPhone version PicPosterous. It re-entered the much famed iWars, by this very action which would definitely increase its user base to a greater extend.
For those who might have heard less about Posterous, it was launched in May 2008. Since then, it has developed gradually to what it is today- a benchmark for quality service, and exceptionally good products. It supports popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and other sites such as Flickr, Picasa, Vimeo, Tumblr, Blogger, WordPress and Xanga. Its account types come in two variants. Either you can choose a Posterous Group account, or a Posterous Site account. The first type of account helps you to connect with your close friends, or like-minded people, just like Google Groups. The next type helps you to post your blog. This account is very similar to the many blogging services we have today. The site’s services are most suitable for mobile blogging as you can email your posts, which may include videos, photos, and other attachments rather than posting it rather directly in the site. It also a very reliable URL shortening service using which you can post in your Twitter account. It also allows its users to register their own domains, which would be hosted by the site.
The PicPosterous application for iPhone can be downloaded from iTunes application section of the apple website. PicPosterous allows its users to instantly post photos and videos from their iPhones as soon as they take it. You can also create albums in which you can add the photos as you post them (or rather, as you take them, I should say). You don’t need to have a Posterous account for posting, once you have the PicPosterous application. It converts the video files for playback in Safari using Flash and also plays in Quicktime, in the case of Mobile safari. All the photos and videos are geo-tagged, and this helps in managing your posts every efficiently.
The latest version of PicPosterous, the 1.6, comes with not much of a startling change with respect to its predecessor model, the 1.4 except for a few miscellaneous changes and bug-fixes. But still the major advantage of the PicProsperous over its nearest rivals WordPresss and Tumblr is its efficient video uploading capacity. The PicPosterous is a bit disappointing as the users really did expect a lot more features in the site’s iPhone application, though it does perform efficiently whatever it promises to do. A creative option such as the ability to comment in between the video posts or images, which is convenient though unconventional, would surely have boosted the brand’s reputation even more.
