Tweet-o-meter – Shows Cities with Highest Number of Tweets Per Minute

Tweet-o-meter is a tool that features tweets per minute within a 30km area of New York, London, Paris, Munich, San Francisco, Barcelona, Oslo, Tokyo, Toronto, Rome, Moscow and Sydney.

The tool is currently in beta mode, the tweet-o-meter updates itself every 10 seconds displaying the city with the highest number of tweets at that point of time, once you are logged in you will be able to make city maps that will display the tweeting activity thought out the city over time and space, the system will be launched as part of a free data collection service via NeISS in the next couple of months. The aim will be to map the development of the narrative in the spatial context and integrating it with the social network.

The tool is currently going through various beta test on data collection with the main mining process starting next week over a 24 hour period. The aim behind the tool is to collect all tweets with a geo-location tag in the above cities, this is a large amount of data allowing various social, spatial and temporal analyses to be carried out.

If you are residing in any of the cities mentioned above, such as NewYork, London, Paris, Munich, you can take part in this tool by simply making sure that the geo location is turned on in your Twitter preferences. Tweet-o-Meter is a twitter tool being developed at the CASA, University College London.
