iKog – Manage Your To do List Quick and Easy
Well, if you’ are looking for fancy menus and windows, then iKog is not for you however, if you are comfortable with text-based applications, you’ll probably find this application useful. What ever the reason; this application is free, so you’ve got nothing to lose.
iKog is a simple utility program designed to help manage your to-do list quick and easy. Since it emphasis more on speed and portability it has been designed in such a way that it provides a text-only utility with no graphical user-interface. It however, does include some features specifically designed to help with techniques such as Getting Things Done (GTD).
Some of its notable features include: portable, powerful filters and encryption of private information. Although it lacks all the bells and whistles of a full-blown GUI task manager, it is one of those tools that make a virtue of doing a limited range of tasks well.
Written in Python, iKog will run right out of the box on Linux operating systems as they have Python installed by default. Since iKog consists of just one file, it makes a great portable application that you can carry with you on a USB stick.
If you want to use this application on the Windows operating system, you will have to install Portable Python on your USB stick; launch Portable Python by running the PortablePython.bat file, and voila! You will have iKog on Windows.
The entire application consists of just one .py file, so there is nothing much to install and configure. Simply download the latest zip or gz archive, unpack it, and start using iKog. Once the application is up and running, you can start adding tasks to it by entering the names of specific tasks including the default priority, context, and date.
In case, you plan on creating a Book project and assigning it to the task, you will have to view a list of all your tasks in iKog, using the LIST command. In addition, you can also use the NEXT and PREVIOUS commands to navigate between tasks. The TOP command allows you to jump to the top of the task list, while the GO command can be used to go to a specific task.
To view the encrypted text, enter the SHOW command followed by the task or note number, then type the master password, and iKog displays the decrypted text.
