Yahoo Pipes – Manipulate and Mashup Content from Around the Web

In simple words pipes is tool that is used to add, manipulate and also to mashup content from all over the web. Using very basic and simple commands one can easily get the desired customized output.

Yahoo! Released a web application called Yahoo! Pipes which provides its users with graphical user interface that is employed for building data mashups that adds services like web pages, web deeds and various other services from multiple sources, and then can be used to publish these applications.

The creators designed the hosted service as a tribute to Unix pipes, as it provides the functionality of chaining simple utilities together on the command line interface. It provides the user with the ease of mixing and developing different and new data mashup in a visual programming environment.

The beta version of Yahoo! Pipes was launched on 7 February 2007. Yahoo! Pipes works as a data mashup tool instead of a complete mashup editor, this beta version was built by Pasha Sadri, Ed Ho, Jonathan Trevor, Kevin Cheng and Daniel Raffel of Yahoo!

When data from multiple web sources are combined into a one integrated web application, its called as web mashup. With the help of Yahoo! Pipes you can combine, sort, filter and also translate the feeds. You can insert the desired widgets on your website, and also use the output of pre-existing pipes or modify it according to your needs.
