Prestashop – A Free Open Source e-commerce Software

Prestashop is an open source application for e-commerce solution where this software is based on Smarty template engine that have around 24,000 active stores as of august 2009.

Prestashop is of 6MB in size and is available to download as a ZIL file where the merchant must have a domain name  and an Apache server or IIS web server is already configured with all the below features:

o Web server (Apache web server 1.3 or later, IIS 6 or later)
o PHP5.0 (*) or later
o MySQL5 (**) or later
o Linux, UNIX or windows installed operating system.

Prestashop software was founded by Igor Schlumberger and Bruno Leveque in Paris. Prestashop is published under the Open Software License (OSL) v3.0.

To provide extra functionality to the store module blocks are added and this software uses AJAX in admin panel. Prestashop is now translated into 38 languages.

A language packs which is an online translation tool that has being used to gather all the translations for the Prestashop software such as front office, back office, modules, PDF.
